Thinking of buying an older car...

I currently own an 182 Focus ST Line, 1.5 diesel which I HATE with a passion. I thought it would be a great step up from my old Fiesta but this was unfortunately not the case, with the car giving me problem after problem, as well as the worst cabin noise I ever experienced in any car I've drove, regardless of how many times I got the alignment done or got the best of tires put on it. Anyway, I will have the car paid off in October and I am seriously considering selling the car and buying an older car for less than 10k. I have always had a soft spot for the likes of a 5 Series, as well as an Audi A6 and an E Class. Is this a stupid thing to do? Going from a car that's 6 years old with 75000km to one that's double that in age and mileage. I don't want anymore loans or finance on cars after this Focus. All i want is a comfortable, well built, reliable car to do me for the next few years. Thanks

Hi Harry,

Unfortunately, going for a much older car is likely to bring with it regular maintenance bills, and parts for the premium brands usually come at a premium, too, so from a financial point of view, it may not be the most sensible. Of course, you could get lucky and find a gem, but it's certainly risky.
