Thinking of buying a diesel in the North...

Hi I am thinking of buying a 22 reg diesel car in Northern Ireland. The car is originally a northern Irish registered, the garage has applied for a v5 as there was a plate change and v5 will be coming back in garages name. Would vat and customs duty need to be paid on this car to import to Southern Ireland.

Do I pay VRT or duty on this car?

Do I pay VRT or duty on this car?

Hi - I'm looking to import a car from Northern Ireland. It was first registered in Northern Ireland in June 2020 (i.e. one owner from new in Northern Ireland). My reading of the rules is that while I have to pay VRT, I don't need to pay VAT or Customs duty on this car. Am I correct? Thanks in advance

Any VAT or duty on this car from the North?

Any VAT or duty on this car from the North?

Hi, a car I am looking at arrived into Northern Ireland from the UK in February 2024. I want to buy it in the North and register it in the Republic of Ireland. The dealer in the North has said that as the car has been in NI for 3 months that no customs/VAT are due on it, a rule that came in on May 1st. Is this true and would I only be liable for VRT on the car?
