To make the insurance affordable, you need to keep the engine size right down, which makes the search a real challenge, as, within a €3,000 budget and post-2008, there are very few estates around with engines smaller than 1.6 litres. We did find a clean Peugeot 207 SW with a 1.4-litre engine that would be a good bet, but you should get an insurance quote before committing. If you're willing to go older, you may find 1.4-litre Skoda Fabia and Ford Focus estates, too.
