We drive the new second generation Juke which is bigger, bolder and undoubtedly better-looking than before
A decade has passed since the first Nissan Juke went on sale, so it’s about time the popular compact crossover was updated. So here is the new second generation Juke, bigger, bolder and undoubtedly better-looking than before.
Prices for the Nissan Juke start from just under €22,000, and it competes against a long list of rivals including the Peugeot 2008, Renault Captur, Skoda Kamiq and Volkswagen T-Cross to mention a few.
One thing is for sure, the Juke is much-improved in the looks department. The new slimline LED daytime running lights and sharper grille are more modern up front, along with sharper rear end styling and new side details including hidden rear door handles. It’s a big thumbs up from us for styling with the new Juke, but do you agree?
Inside it’s definitely more spacious than before, especially in the rear seats where this enough room to seat two adults comfortably, but three will be a squeeze. Boot space has increased to 422 litres. Fold the rear seats and there is 1,088 litres of room to play with.
The driving position is supportive with lots of more adjustment than before, along a new touch screen infotainment system on higher specification models, with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay and voice recognition.
The Juke is now available with a single 1.0-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine and the option of a six-speed-manual gearbox or a new seven-speed DCT automatic transmission which is much improved on the CVT of old. With 115hp, it’s lively around town and economical too, although it isn’t the most exciting to drive.
In terms of safety, the Juke scored the maximum five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests and it is also fitted with lots of safety tech as standard, including automatic emergency braking, lane-keep assist, cruise control and hill start assist. There are two sets of ISOFIX mounts in the rear.
The new Nissan Juke is hugely improved, which it needs to be with so many quality rivals to compete with. It’s bigger inside than before, though not quite as practical as some of its rivals. The interior quality is much improved, while there is lots of new useful tech too. It scores well in terms of safety, which will be a good thing for small families. It stands out in terms of styling and it comes with a huge list of customisation options if that is your thing.
